Abstract: The Department of Canadian Heritage commissioned this study in order to have current information about the contributions of the creative industries to the Canadian economy, and in order to better understand issues facing the cultural industries in the years to come. The industries profiled are: publishing, theatrical and musical productions, motion picture and video industries, radio and television, software/databases and new media, advertising services, photography/visual and graphic arts, copyright collectives and rights management societies. This report includes a quantitative analysis of contributions to GDP, employment, and balance of trade for cultural industries, and a qualitative analysis of current and future issues.
